ABOUT

Black Tape

Hey, I'm ulisa. I'm a text-based artist, editor, and maker. In December 2022, I completed a Master's degree in Composition with a focus in New Media Literacy and Rhetoric. During this experience, I further studied writing, multimodal design, and digital literacy. To say the least, my craft was recalibrated to the new ways of effectively communicating--especially as it relates to online content and writing, digital media , and editing. My freelance work--which typically involves interactivity--centers around new literacies, the ones we've acquired to make sense of language and communication in the 21st century.

Over the course of the last two years, I grew a penchant for research and data analytics. I've combined this interest with my vocation for writing, and thus have extensively written and critiqued multimodal interfacing, digital art, and stagnant literacies. With this research, I created a company, Digital Media Art House (DMAH), that showcases and examines how we transfer information, activate, and communicate in virtual spaces. More specifically, DMAH seeks to understand how technology impacts meaning-making, reading, writing, and the human experience.

if nothing else, i help virtual spaces reenergize the sense of connection and play. we're all just a bit too serious...

In my free time I enjoy thinking, art + graphic design, paper arts, and media publishing.

Digital Media Art House (DMAH) is a space dedicated to highlighting artists that work within multimedia and include a component of interactivity. At DMAH, the emphasis on interactivity stems from our hopes of what's to come with the launch of Web3, the metaverse, AR/VR, NFTs, and biometric-enhancing user experiences.

In this installation, Azarias (a chicago-based artist and producer) and DMAH worked on creating an electronic press kit (EPK) for Azarias' solo debut album: Of the Chasm. EPKs are typically one page PDFs; but, our team sought to unyoke this standard by creating an interactive website for music curators, writers, and publishers to play. Check the links below.
